SOMNIA-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

1. Dreams are how Sleep chooses you. What might draw your character into Somnia— a wound, a wish, a weakness? Would they follow the dream, or run from it?

A wish: to be with his family, specifically his sister. Aventurine's status as the last of his kind has alienated him in more ways than one throughout his life, but his sister is the only person that he recalls from a time when he was happy. A chance to be with her again somehow would be something he would follow without question even if he knew it was a dream. In his canon, in fact, there is a significant part of his story where he hallucinates and follows a boy (that turns out to be his past self) immediately upon seeing that they have the eyes of an Avgin, showing a desperation for that familiar connection in a world where he feels so alone.

2. Somnia is a slow unraveling—of worlds, and of selves. How does your character respond to fear, transformation, and losing control? Do they fight, adapt, collapse?

Aventurine fights via his ability to adapt to every and any situation thrown at him. Aventurine has been through unspeakable things, first as the unwilling survivor of a genocide and then with being sold into slavery. Each time he has faced immense fear for his life, a transformation of going from being valued by his sister as a human to being worthless as a slave. He has continued to push forward and defy his odds against the world to escape slavery and even earn a slot as one of the most powerful individuals known in the galaxy under the company he works for, the IPC. However, his freedom is still something of a farce within the company, it having been mentioned that when he first joined he sold the rights to his appearance to the company for very little money and is more or less an asset that can't escape the company rather than an employee that works there. It's also been a long time since he's felt truly in control of his own existence.

3. Connection is the only constant. What kind of bonds does your character form— fast and burning, slow and wary, deep and desperate? How might that shape their time in this world?

Slow and wary. Aventurine is a man that has had everything taken from him, and this at a young age learned that the only things connections can do is hurt you unless you wield them like weapons for your own gain. He is quick to make superficial bonds with others and is flirtatious and charismatic with a silver tongue that comes from learning from the best of the best ini the IPC (the lady Jade. )

4. What are two major forces in your character’s personality that are often in conflict? (Ex: logic vs emotion, power vs guilt, obedience vs rage, etc.)

The Need to Survive and Overcome vs the Desire to Die
Aventurine is blessed by the goddess Gaiathra Triclops, which is where his uncanny luck to survive and always come out on top is attributed to. This nature luck has benefitted him greatly along with his desire to survive and rise about the circumstances handed to him no matter the cost, but this luck has also caused him to be quite unlucky in the same manner to the point he himself no longer understands if it's a blessing or a curse he's received. While Aventurine has everything materially now, he lacks what made him happy as a child when he had nothing. So while he and his luck allow him to continuously survive, he also harbors a deep resentment both of that luck and his own desire to want to survive and come out on top (he's more or less an adrenaline junkie through how he takes high risks and whatnot.) There is another part of him that wants nothing more than to die, both due to survivor's guilt as well as never managing to gain the support system due to his lifestyle that would help him move past this. In order to achieve his goals, he will do absolutely anything and everything—betray and manipulate others as well as sacrifice his own life, but even when he does the latter he is never lucky enough for it all to end as he secretly hopes for.

VESSEL SELECTION
Which Vessel Type are you choosing: Token
Why does this Vessel type feel appropriate for your character?

Token feels appropriate because Aventurine is a man that was once always taken from but now takes from others without remorse. He doesn't have a need to give anything up for more power or to sacrifice anything (such as his human form) for it—or more accurately, he doesn't feel he has much left to sacrifice. Instead he's learned to manipulate and twist things to work for him as he is. This also ties in with the lore of the Avgin race that Aventurine is a part of—his appearance is part of his arsenal and weaponry so he wouldn't have a desire to lose it to gain more power when there is the option to use it to his advantage still.

I'm listing three subclasses, but after seeing the taken list and what token subtypes have been chosen, I'm going to focus on the subclass I didn't see anyone actually yet have because I'm a big fan of spreading things out if at all possible!

I'm focusing on Lightweaver being appropriate because it has the ability of illusion through the power of light, and it reflects Aventurine's personality quite well. Most people think of light as pure and good and something that is preferable to the darkness, and Aventurine's appearance in particular is very much like light in the sense that his entire race is viewed as having been natural honeypots that took advantage of their beauty and charm to seduce and manipulate others. While it's unclear if this is just the stereotype that the Avgins gained from predjudice, Aventurine has—as the last one—gone above and beyond to be exactly as the stereotypes of his people claim. He also manipulates through truth more than he does lies.

The other reasons for finding Lightweaver suitable for Aventurine are the following traits:

• Eyes shimmer like fractured prisms, refracting light into impossible colors'
Aventurine's race is known for their unique eyes (his magenta and cyan two-toned eyes are a feature of the Avgin race and considered very alien. some find them beautiful, but others find them unsettling.)

• Can bend, split, or focus light to create dazzling displays, illusions, or blinding flashes
Aventurine is extremely flashy in his appearance and his personality

• Able to craft light into tangible forms: whips of radiance, shields, or guiding beacons
his powers from back home have him as a shielder and protection with an element that's known as "imaginary." Those that use the imaginary element basically create things out of an element that looks like light (but it's not) defensively or offensively.

• Can cloak themselves or others in brilliant light, blending truth and concealment
As mentioned before, Aventurine is all about manipulation and illusions. He takes risks for gain with these methods, and while he is often smiling, it's impossible to really what he's feeling or thinking as a result rather than it being something of actual comfort for others.

• Cannot create warmth or fire; light is cold and intangible
This weakness trait works really well as Aventurine, even when he tries to be a "nice person," he can barely remember what being kind and "warm" towards someone he cares about is any more, and so he struggles with making friends or proving his sincerity to those he wants to offer it to.

• Darkness or total absence of light dampens or nullifies their power
• Vulnerable to shadowy entities that feed on light or silence illumination
As I'm taking Aventurine from when he's leaving the Horizon of Existence, he's been affected by the Aeon of Nihility's power, which is representeded by voids/darkness/etc. Although we have no further knowledge of if he will be affected by this ability further, he sufferes from nightmares and is being watched to make sure he doesn't become what is known as a Self-Annihilator, so him being a Token that is weak to shadow or voids is really fitting.

Choose one OR list three subclass options within your chosen Vessel type that you think would suit them: Lightweaver
(The other two I was considering were Shadwobringer and Illusionist.)
