[It had been an interesting few weeks of settling in the Hotel at Aventurine's invitation. The residents were a motley bunch- but that was hardly a surprise. It was familiar, even. But Urushihara knew that it was high time he fessed up about a few matters to the man who was hosting him.
It was a matter of safety for everyone, after all.
After his usual hoodie had gotten sodden while helping Jayce, Urushihara had found a selection of hoodies to swap around while he laundered them, incident ridiculously pink sleep hoodie with fleece lining to wear while hunkered down in the hotel hiding from the beasts that were starting to emerge.
He looked almost comical as he approached wherever Aventurine was- it was the serious frown on his face that dampened the humor.]
Oi, Sunglasses? Do you have a minute? Or, maybe five?
[ Aventurine is in the dressing room, reading (aka: pretending to read and looking at manga panels) by the fireplace. He glances over his book when he hears someone approaching, lowering his book fully when address. ]
... I mostly wanted to apologize for surprising you with the thing about the Pink Girl.
[He added, peeking out from under the pink hood.]
Ash and I had a verbal pact that happened before you invited me here- and I did suggest to her Old Man that it should probably be a group effort if they do it again. Then Ironeye got curious and I had to bat him away from the idea with the same explanation.
So. Point is that I'm a little responsible- and she's kind of a mess. It'd be rude to back out of a Death Pact at the last minute.
Fair enough, I suppose. That dreamscape was particularly messy with making sensible choices.
Apology accepted. That doesn't mean you are off the hook, though. You have a death pact, but you're just going to have to make sure neither of you die down there.

[Urushihara, not sure how to express this properly without using words he didn't like, flapped his arms in the oversized sleeves and reached for a couple of the nearby books with titles that he couldn't read- and slapped them together repeatedly.]
[ staring at this very strange game of charades. oh, but after a moment he can make a guess since he does remember the other's responses to sone things on the murmur. ]
I'm gonna go with that being 'banging.' Am I warm?
...Did you just hear about the tethers from Kal or something?
[ he'll offer out one of his gloved hands towards Urushihara, palm open in invitation. ]
Any kind of momentary connection works. Strong feelings like trust or even fear. Expressions of those feelings seem to work, too, so long as it's personal somehow. It doesn't have to be invasive or extremely intimate, though.
[He wasn't close with Kal, but she was nothing if not loud about the subject. His embarrassment showed on his face and his behavior, in the way he tugged self consciously on his hoodie before he accepted the offered hand.]

People always make the biggest deal of the most dramatic stuff.
[ he laughs gently before pulling the other into a brief hug. It'll spark a tether, small and fragile, but it's there. ]
A weak tether is easy, and while you need stronger ones to help better with Sleep's influence, you can slowly work up to it. When you think about it... once you get more comfortable with the bond and the person, it strengths. So it's not all that different from getting to know someone better. We all have our secrets we want to keep or at least choose who we give them to, and you can learn how to keep those in check even in a deeper tether once you get used having them.
[Hugs were always a surprise, after so long, but Aventurine was familiar enough by the point that it was easy for Urushihara to relax into it. He squeezed back while he listened to the explanation- and accepted the offered Tether.]

Guess I just overthink things sometimes.
[He overthought often, and his imagination was wild enough that the silence when he was alone would take on new meanings, creating stories that he fully believed which in hindsight weren't always true. It made for trouble often enough that no one back on the Earth the was on before was surprised by it- but-]
FYI? 'Hanzo Urushihara' is just the name of my government ID. It was easier to write in Japanese.
[All of the denizens of Ente Isla who had gotten stuck in Japan had to make arrangements and corrections in order to fit in and function within that society.]
It's easy to overthink things and make it harder on ourselves. We all do it to varying degrees, and being aware of it is a great step to getting better control on it.

Aventurine can also understand that being easier to write than a non-Japanese name. I finally laid some of this year's drama to rest. Whew!
